以下の画像の通り、日中は緑の平原、湿潤パンパが広がっています。パンパは国土の約25%、ブエノスアイレス州とコルドバ州のほぼ全てと、サンタフェ州とラ・パンパ州の大部分を占め、アルゼンチンの富の多くを生み出しています。人の気配はあまりありませんが、これが夜になると、人間活動が顕著にわかります。
光のドットが直線的に写っていますが、これは20世紀中に20~30kmおきに開発された鉄道駅及びその周辺の町です。最近ではトラックなど自由度の高い自動車による物流が主流になってきていますが、鉄道による輸送網があります。

When viewed from a satellite in daylight, the landscape of central Argentina shows barely a sign of human settlement. As can be seen from the image below, the pampas, fertile South American lowlands, covers the most of Cordoba State.
But by night, evenly spaced (30-50km) luminescent dots are seen, as many of the towns grew up around railway stations. Maps from the middle of the 20th century show the network of railway lines that gave shape to this curious configuration.
