[:ja]ジャック・フィッシャー宇宙飛行士が撮影したISSの内部と地球です。キューポラは、欧州宇宙機関ESAが建造した国際宇宙ステーションISSの観測用モジュールです。2分過ぎから地球の動画が始まります。

大西宇宙飛行士がキューポラから地球を眺めている時、地球を見上げる格好になっていますが、実はそれは自然なことのようです。以下の大西さんのコメントをご覧ください。

「…キューポラから撮った写真は普通地球が上に写っています。それが地球が下に来るように、反転されています。いつもJAXA広報の担当者に写真を送ると、それが地上で公開されるときには上下反転されて公開されます。

ちょっと興味深いなと思いました。

私はこの上下反転されると、何だか居心地が悪いのです。ところが、地上の方にとっては元の構図の方が居心地が悪いのでしょう。

私たちがキューポラから地球を眺めるとき、通常は頭からキューポラに入っていくので、必然的に地球を見上げる格好になります。だから地球が上に写っている方がしっくりくるのです。

地上の方は、反対に宇宙を見上げていますからね。私たちはお互いに見上げている状態というわけです。

人間というのは、どうしても自分の主観に合わせてものを見るのだなと、このエピソードで改めて感じました。」

[Earthview Wonders][Video] No.327: Earth from Cupola

Astronaut Jack Fischer captured the inside of ISS and the Earth from Cupola. The Cupola is an ESA-built observatory module of the International Space Station (ISS). Its seven windows are used to conduct experiments, dockings and observations of Earth. At 02:00 the earthview video starts.

He commented that while peole on the ground feels comfortable looking “down” at the Earth and floating “over” it, astronauts feel comfortable looking “up” at it since it actually is so.

This is interesting that human beings see things from their own perspective.
