[:ja]木星の衛星エウロパの表面から噴き出す水蒸気を観測したとNASAが発表（画像の7時の方角）。ハッブル宇宙望遠鏡の高感度紫外線域の観測により、水蒸気は200kmの高さまで噴き上がると確認されています。

NASAは、この吹き出す水蒸気により、着陸船からドリルで掘削する必要なく、エウロパの地下の水の成分を分析できるとコメントしています。

ちなみに、太陽系で他に生命の存在の可能性が指摘されているのは、地下の海の存在の可能性がある木星の衛星エウロパに加えて、メタンの海がある土星の衛星タイタン、液体の水の存在の可能性がある土星の衛星エンケラドスがあります。

NASA announced that water plumes erupting on Jupiters’s moon Europa (7 o’clock position of the photo). Hubble Space Telescope’s ultraviolet sensitivity estimated the plume rising over 200km.

NASA commented that the plum may enable sampling Europa’s ocean without having to drill through ice.

In addition to Europa, other solar system moon where life may exist include Saturn’s moon Titan with methane ocean, Saturn’s moon Enceladus with possible water ocean.
