[:ja]2018年10月20日に打ち上げられたBepiColombo探査機および水星磁気圏探査機「みお」が約1年半ぶりに地球に接近し、2020年4月10日に地球スイングバイを実施し、最接近時に南大西洋上空の高度約12700kmを通過しました。地球スイングバイでは地球の重力を利用して約5km/sの減速を行いましたが、今後金星で2回、水星で6回の計9回のスイングバイ（惑星探査機として史上最多）を実施する予定です。2025年12月に水星到着予定です。

[Earthview Wonders] No.1003: BepiColombo’s Earth Swing-by

On April 10, JAXA’s MIO Mercury orbiter onboard the BepiColombo spacecraft successfully made Earth swing-by, and passed by Earth 12700km over the South Pacific Ocean. The spacecraft decelerated 5km/s with this swing-by, and is scheduled to have swing-bys twice at Venus and six times at Mercury (the highest number of swing-bys by spacecraft ever). BepiColombo is expected to arrive at Mercury in December 2025.

The BepiColombo mission is a joint endeavour between ESA and JAXA to explore the planet Mercury. Each space agency designed an orbiter which stack together with the European-built transfer module that provides the propulsion through interplanetary space.
