NASA’s Landsat 8 satellite captured the ice melting at East Island, Antarctica.

On Feb. 6, 2020, Esperanza Base long Antarctica’s Trinity Peninsula recorded 18.3C, the hottest temperature on record for Antarctica, breaking the record of 18.3C on March 24, 2015. The warm spell caused widespread melting on nearby glaciers. The warm temperatures of Feb. 2020 were considered to be caused by a combination of meteorological elements. A ridge of high pressure was centered over Cape Horn at the beginning of the month, and it allowed warm temperatures to build.
The local scenery on the ground of Esperanza Base near East Island is as follows.
