2015年7月20日に、半世紀以上途絶えていたキューバと米国が交を回復し、5年経ちました。融和路線を掲げたオバマ前米大統領に対して、トランプ政権は方針を転換し、経済制裁を強化、キューバの主要産業である観光業は大打撃を受けました。加えて、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大の影響もあり、キューバの経済や国民生活は混迷を深めています。好景気に沸くと信じられた5年前の興奮は失望に変わりつつあるようです。

On July 20, 2015, Cuba and the U.S. restored diplomatic relations with a great deal of hope which has been long lost for over half century. The ensuing progress made toward rapprochement between the 2 countries is seen as one of the Obama administration’s biggest foreign policy achievements which however was put to an end by Trump Administration. The US makes it difficult for Cubans living abroad to send remittance payments back home. Also the coronavirus pandemic has affected Cuban tourism industry seriously.

Here is the video of ISS going across the U.S. to reach Cuba.
