[:ja]NASAの地球観測衛星Landsat 8が撮影したグリーンランドのヘルハイム氷河です。以下の比較画像(1972/2019)の通り、約50年で氷河が相当程度後退し、山頂が顕わになり、海上に出ている氷山が減少しています。

ヘルハイム氷河はグリーンランド最大の氷河で、北欧神話のユグドラシルの地下にあるといわれる死者の国ニヴルヘイムにちなんで名づけられました。ヘルハイム・フィヨルドやセルミリク・フィヨルドに雪(水分)を供給しています。

NASA’s Landsat 8 satellite captured Helheim Glacier, Greenland. As can be seen from the comparative images (1972/2019), during the last 50 years, ice fronts have retreated, rocky peaks are more exposed, fewer icebergs drift to the ocean.

Helheim Glacier is one of Greenland’s largest outlet glaciers and is named after the world of the dead in Norse Mythology. It feeds the waters of the Helheim Fjord, a branch of the Sermilik (Egede og Rothes Fjord) system, where there are a number of other glaciers calving and discharging at rapid rates such as the Midgard Glacier.
The glacier back in 1972 is as follows.
