[:ja]ルカ・パルミタノ宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影した大西洋、スペイン領カナリア諸島のテネリフェ島です。
テネリフェ島は諸島最大の都市で、カナリア諸島自治州の州都サンタ・クルス・デ・テネリフェが島の北東部にあります。この島は元々火山島で、スペインの最高峰、テイデ山 (3,718m) があります。15世紀まで、ヨーロッパ最古の石器文化を営むグアンチェ族（北アフリカのベルベル系の部族）が原住民として暮らしていました。1496年、スペインのカスティーリャ王国に征服され、以降、アメリカ大陸へ横断するための重要な中継地として発展。この頃建築された王宮や教会、修道院、貴族の邸宅が世界遺産のサン・クリストバル・デ・ラ・ラグーナや、オロタバなど数々の街に残っています。また、1800年代後半には豪華ホテルが建設され始め、現在のようなリゾート地になりました。

Astronaut Luca Parmitano captured from ISS Tenerife Island, the largest and most-populated island of the eight Canary Islands, under the administration of Spain.
With 5 million tourists visiting each year, Tenerife is one of the most important tourist destinations in Spain, hosting one of the world’s largest carnivals, the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Teide National Park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is in the center of the island. In it, the Mount Teide has the highest elevation of Spain, the highest of the islands of the Atlantic Ocean, and is the third-largest volcano in the world from its base.
