人口約750,000人を擁するメキシコで15番目に大きい都市クリアカン (Culiacán) は、メキシコ北西部にあるシナロア州の基礎自治体で、州最大の人口を持つ都市であると同時にその中心地、クリアカン・ロサレス(Culiacán Rosales)は同州の州都です。町は、タマスラ川とウマヤ川が合流しクリアカン川となる地点に形成され、標高54mに位置しています。

Culiacán or Culiacán Rosales is the capital of and the largest city in Sinaloa and in the Culiacán Municipality. It is the most populous and extensive city in Sinaloa and was founded on September 29, 1531 by the Spanish conquerors Lázaro de Cebreros and Nuño Beltrán de Guzmán under the name of Villa de San Miguel referring to its patron saint San Miguel Arcángel. The city of Culiacán is well known for its culture, luxuries and celebrations. Its iconic sites include its historic center, Las Riberas park, the flag or better known as dancing fountains and religious temples such as its Basilica Cathedral, the Sanctuary and the Lomita. The city is located in a valley on the slopes of the Sierra Madre Occidental at the confluence of the Tamazula and Humaya rivers, where the two join to form the Culiacán River, 55m above sea level.
