アイルランドは、1922年に英愛条約の結果、アイルランド自由国として誕生し、1948年のアイルランド共和国法（Republic of Ireland Act 1948）により、1949年に正式に共和国と宣言されました。1998年にベルファスト合意が調印されて以来、アイルランド政府と北アイルランド政府執行部は、協定によって設立された南北閣僚協議会の下で、多くの政策分野で協力してきました。金融危機後、2015年にはアイルランド経済がEU内で最も急速に成長したことから、アイルランドは国際的に富と繁栄を比較するリーグテーブルを再び急速に上昇させています。例えば、2019年には、アイルランドは国連の人間開発指数によって世界で3番目に先進国にランクされ、報道の自由、経済的自由、市民的自由など、数々の国の指標でも高く示されています。今日、欧州の重要な金融センターであるダブリンは、元々は、ヴァイキングの入植地が、キリスト教の教会的な入植地として知られる「Duibhlinn」に先行していたと考えられており、そこから「Dyflin」の名前が付けられたとされています。

The earliest evidence of human presence in Ireland is dated at 10,500 BC. Gaelic Ireland had emerged by the 1st century AD. A war of independence in the early 20th century was followed by the partition of the island, creating the Irish Free State, which became increasingly sovereign over the following decades, and Northern Ireland, which remained a part of the United Kingdom. Irish culture has had a significant influence on other cultures, especially in the field of literature. Alongside mainstream Western culture, a strong indigenous culture exists, as expressed through Gaelic games, Irish music and the Irish language.Dublin is a historical and contemporary center for education, the arts, administration and industry. As of 2018 the city was listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC) as a global city, with a ranking of “Alpha −”, which places it amongst the top thirty cities in the world.
