[:ja]セルゲイ・クド-スべルチコフ宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影した、地球の大気越しの木星と土星です。
2020年12月21日、太陽系で最大の惑星、木星と2番目に大きい土星が約400年ぶりに大接近しました。木星と土星は実際には7.3億km以上離れていますが、地球との相対的な位置関係によって近づいて見えました。「グレートコンジャンクション」と呼ばれるこの現象は、北半球では冬至に、南半球では夏の初めにごくまれに見られます。次に木星と土星が大接近するのは2080年と予測されています。

Astronaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov captured from ISS Jupiter and Saturn coming closer in “the Great Conjunction.”
On Dec. 21, 2020, Jupiter and Saturn, the two largest planets in our solar system, came closer together than they have been in 400 years. The proximity is only apparent, the real distance between them is about 700 million km. In 1623, these 2 planets traveled together across the sky. Jupiter caught up to and passed Saturn, in an astronomical event known as a “Great Conjunction.”
