サモア独立国はイギリス連邦加盟国の一つで、南太平洋（オセアニア）に位置し、ウポル島、サバイイ島および7つの小島からなる国家です。西経171度線を境として西側に位置するのがサモア独立国、東に位置するのが米領サモアと分割されていますが、住民も文化も同じポリネシア系です。首都はウポル島北部にあるアピアです。アピアは唯一の都市であり、市街には伝統的な住宅と西洋的な住宅が混在しており、港湾施設もあります。

Astronaut Christina Koch captured from ISS Samoa and American Samoa in the Pacific Ocean.
Samoa is a Polynesian island country consisting of many islands, and is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Western Samoa was admitted to the United Nations in 1976 and eastern Samoa belongs to the U.S. The entire island group, which includes American Samoa, was called “Navigator Islands” by European explorers before the 20th century because of the Samoans’ seafaring skills. The capital city is Apia. The Lapita people discovered and settled the Samoan Islands around 3,500 years ago. They developed a Samoan language and Samoan cultural identity.
