[:ja]宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影した米ハワイ州のニイハウ島です。
ニイハウ島は、カウアイ島から南西27kmの位置にあります。1864年、スコットランド人のエリザベス・シンクレア夫人が、カメハメハ5からピアノ1台と10,000ドルで、ニイハウ島を島民付きで買い取りました。現在もシンクレア夫人の末裔である、ロビンソン一家がニイハウ島を所有しており、島に出入り出来るのは原則としてロビンソン一家とカウアイ郡の関係者だけで、一般人の出入りは難しいと言われています。現在では島の一部を散策できるツアーもありますが、島民への接触は招待された者以外は認められていません。

Astronaut on board ISS captured Niihau Island, Hawaii, U.S.
Niihau is the westernmost inhabited island in Hawaii and is 28km from Kauai Island. In 1864 Elizabeth Sinclair purchased Niihau for $10,000 from the Kingdom of Hawaii and private ownership passed on to her descendants, the Robinson family. The island is generally off-limits to all but relatives of the island’s owners, U.S. Navy personnel, the Robinson family, government officials and invited guests, giving it the nickname “The Forbidden Isle.” Beginning in 1987, a limited number of supervised activity tours and hunting safaris have opened to tourists. The island is currently managed by brothers Bruce Robinson and Keith Robinson.
