ルクソールはエジプト、ルクソール県の県都で、古代エジプトの都テーベがあった場所で、現在も数多くの遺跡が残っています。日が昇る方角であるナイル川の東岸には、カルナック神殿やルクソール神殿など生を象徴する建物が、日が沈む方向のナイル川西岸には死を象徴する、王家の谷や王妃の谷などがあり、王家の谷には有名なツタンカーメン王の墓があります。

Astronaut Ivan Vagner captured from ISS Luxor, Egypt.
As the site of the Ancient Egyptian city of Thebes, Luxor has frequently been characterized as the “world’s greatest open-air museum.” On the east side of the River Nile lie the ruins of the temple complexes at Karnak which represents “life” while on the west side lie Necropolis with temples and tombs including the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens, representing “death”.
