モロッコの商業・金融の中心地で、アフリカ有数の世界都市です。港湾も経済を支える重要な要素で、リン鉱石が最大の輸出品。漁業・魚缶詰も盛んです。紀元前10世紀にベルベル人がアンファという地域に定住したのが、カサブランカの始まりだといわれています。紀元前7世紀頃にフェニキア人、紀元前5世紀頃にはローマ人と交易が行われていました。

Casablanca is Morocco’s chief port and one of the largest financial centers on the African continent. While one of the most important Casablancan exports is phosphate, other industries include fishing and its peripheral industries. The leading Moroccan companies and many international corporations doing business in the country have their headquarters and main industrial facilities in Casablanca. Recent industrial statistics show Casablanca holds its recorded position as the primary industrial zone of the nation. The Port of Casablanca is one of the largest artificial ports in the world, and the second largest port in North Africa.
