2021年9月11日は、9.11から20周年の節目の日でした。2001年9月11日にハイジャック攻撃を受けた米ニューヨークの世界貿易センタービルの跡地などで、追悼式典が行われ、計6回の黙祷と、3000人近い犠牲者の名前が読み上げられました。ペンシルヴェニア州の追悼式典では、9/11当時の大統領だったブッシュ氏が、20年前の攻撃後にアメリカ国民がいかに一致団結したかを思うと、最近の国内の激しい分断や対立は隔世の感があると述べ、「イスラム系アメリカ人やアウトサイダー、移民や難民を温かく受け入れる国、それが私の知っているアメリカだ」と強調しました。

Sept. 11, 2021 marked the 20th anniversary of the national tragedy that resulted in a staggering loss of life and a significant change in American culture. Victims’ relatives and four U.S. presidents paid respects at the sites where hijacked planes killed nearly 3,000 people on American soil.
