[:ja]大西宇宙飛行士がISS滞在中に撮影した美しい台湾の夜景です。中国本土沿岸部の光が強く、ややわかりにくいですが、しずく形の台湾島が見えます。
台湾島はフィリピン海プレートとユーラシアプレートが交差するため、地震が多く温泉が豊富にあります。島の東側3分の2に5つの山脈が南北約400kmにわたり大部分を縦走しており、耕作可能地は島の約30%に過ぎません。画像の町灯りが西側に集まっていることからもそれがよくわかります。島の北側の灯は、夏のイカ釣り漁の漁火です。

Astronaut Takuya Onishi captured beautiful nightview of Taiwan. Bright light of the mainland China hinders spotting Taiwan, but you can see the droplet-shaped Taiwan Island.
Taiwan lies in a complex tectonic area between the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Plate, causing many earthquakes as well as hotwaters. Five ranges dominate eastern two-thirds of the island, exhibiting only 30% cultivatable land of the entire area. You can see this fact from this image that lights are concentrated on the west coast of the island. The lights in the north of island are of squid fishing in summer.
