マドリードの人口は約325万人、都市圏人口は679万人（2018年時点）であり、EU内においてパリに次ぐ規模の大都市圏です。スペイン中央部のメセタ地帯のマンサナーレス川沿いに広がります。近郊にはモストレス、アルカラ・デ・エナーレス、ヘタフェなどの都市があり、マドリード首都圏を形成しています。ケッペンの気候区分では、温帯に属する地中海性気候のCsaです。標高が667mと比較的高いことから冬はやや寒くなり、しばしば氷点下になります。まあ、地中海性気候であるため降雨は冬に多く、10月から5月にかけて、とくに10月から12月と4月から5月に雨が多いです。逆に夏は乾燥し、気温も30℃以上まで上がることがしばしばあります。

Astronaut Soichi Noguchi captured from ISS Madrid, the capital of Spain.
Madrid has 3.4 million inhabitants and a metropolitan area population of 6.7 million, and is the political, economic and cultural center of the country. Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula. The Madrid urban agglomeration has the second-largest GDP in the European Union and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, environment, media, fashion, science, culture, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world’s major global cities. Madrid has a Mediterranean climate (Köppen Csa) with continental influences in the western half of the city transitioning to a semi-arid climate (BSk) in the eastern half. Winters are cool due to its 667m altitude and distance from the moderating effect of the sea, and summers are hot and sunny.
