[:ja]ISSから撮影された、地中海最大の島、イタリアのシチリア島です。島東部には欧州最大の活火山エトナ火山と噴煙が見えています。

シチリア島の歴史は長く、紀元前11世紀には、西部にエリュミア人、中部にシカノス人、東部にシケロイ人が原住民として住んでいました。2000年以上前から穀物をはじめとする農作物の生産地で、なかでもオリーブとワインが特産品となっています。

Sicily has a long history and by 11th century BC and the island had Elymians in the west, Sicanians in the central and Sicels in the east. Sicily has been a major grain producer for the past 2000 years, and is famous for olives and grape vines.
