[:ja]ISSから撮影された、地中海最大の島、イタリアのシチリア島です。島東部には欧州最大の活火山エトナ火山と噴煙が見えています。
シチリア島の歴史は長く、紀元前11世紀には、西部にエリュミア人、中部にシカノス人、東部にシケロイ人が原住民として住んでいました。2000年以上前から穀物をはじめとする農作物の生産地で、なかでもオリーブとワインが特産品となっています。

Sicily of Italy captured from ISS. The largest island in the Mediterranean Sea has an active volcano Mount Etna on the east side of the island and its plume.
Sicily has a long history and by 11th century BC and the island had Elymians in the west, Sicanians in the central and Sicels in the east. Sicily has been a major grain producer for the past 2000 years, and is famous for olives and grape vines.
