[Earthview Wonders] No.157: Tian Shan Mountains

ESA’s Sentinel-2A satellite captured the Tian Shan Mountains of the Central Asia, to the north of Taklamakan Desert, at the border of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China.

Credit: ESA

Scientists report that the glaciers of Tian Shan have lost approximately a quarter of their ice mass since 1960’s and the half of the remaining glaciers will have melted by 2050.

For reference, while true color image cannot differentiate white clouds and snow, false color expresses snow with light blue and clouds with white.
