ミネアポリスは、ミネソタ州東部に位置するアメリカ中西部を代表する大都市です。市はミネソタ川がミシシッピ川に合流する地点の北側に位置しており、ミネアポリスと東に隣接する州都セントポールとをあわせてTwin Cities（双子の都市）とも呼ばれます。ミネアポリスの市名はダコタ族の言葉で「水」を意味するmniとギリシア語で「都市」を意味するpolisとを組み合わせてつけられました。その名が示す通り市には水が豊富で、市域内に20の湖を持ち、ミシシッピ川や多数の小川が流れ、滝が形成されています。ミネアポリスには連邦準備銀行が置かれ、第9地区をカバーしています。また、ミネアポリスはシカゴとシアトルの間で最も重要なビジネス拠点です。ミネアポリスは音楽シーンにもその名を残した。1970年代から1980年代にかけて、プリンスをはじめとする地元出身のミュージシャンはミネアポリスサウンドと呼ばれる音楽を確立させ、世界に広めた。

Minneapolis, Minnesota is abundant in water, with 13 lakes, wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks and waterfalls. Minneapolis has its origins in timber and as the flour milling capital of the world. It occupies both banks of the Mississippi River and adjoins Saint Paul, the state capital of Minnesota, nad the 2 cities are collectively known as the Twin Cities. Prior to European settlement, the site of Minneapolis was inhabited by Dakota people. The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis serves Minnesota, Montana, North and South Dakota, and parts of Wisconsin and Michigan; it has the smallest population of the 12 regional banks in the Federal Reserve System.
