リヤドは、人口は6百万人超の、アラビア半島中央部の世界都市です。もともとリヤドは内陸の小都市でサウジアラビア建国以前は数万人が居住するに過ぎなかったのですが、第二次世界大戦後、石油の富がサウジアラビアに還流するようになると急速に発展し、アラビア半島最大の都市へと変貌を遂げました。

Astronaut Thomas Pesquet captured from ISS the night view of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Riyadh is in the centre of the Arabian Peninsula on a large plateau and home to more than 6 million people. The city used to be small before Saudi State establishment, but after World War II, oil wealth rapidly modernized the city to be the largest in the country.
