ブラチスラバは、スロバキアの首都で、ドナウ川に面した同国最大の都市です。ハンガリーおよびオーストリアの2か国の国境に接しており、主権国家の首都としては唯一、市域内に三国国境があります。ウィーンに最も近接した首都でもあり、両者の関係は古来密接です。市の歴史は有史以来、スロバキア人のほかケルト人、ローマ人、フン族､アヴァール、ドイツ人、ハンガリー人（マジャル人）、クマン人､ブルガール人、ユダヤ人などのさまざまな民族が関与しました。経済の分野では、ブラチスラヴァ市には多くの政府機関や民間企業の本社が立地しており、市内人口の75%以上が貿易、金融、IT通信、観光などの第三次産業に従事しています。フォルクスワーゲンは1991年にスロバキア工場をブラチスラヴァ市に置き、現在はすべてのフォルクスワーゲン・トゥアレグ、ポルシェ・カイエン、アウディ・Q7の部品も生産しています。

Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti captured from ISS Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.
Bratislava is the largest city of Slovakia. Bratislava is at the foot of the Little Carpathians, occupying both banks of the River Danube and the left bank of the River Morava. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two sovereign states. The city’s history has been influenced by people of many nations and religions, including Austrians, Bulgarians, Croats, Czechs, Germans, Hungarians, Jews, Romani, Serbs and Slovaks. Today Bratislava is the political, cultural and economic centre of Slovakia. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament and the Slovak Executive. In 2017, Bratislava was ranked as the third richest region of the European Union by GDP (PPP) per capita (after Hamburg and Luxembourg City).
