ブダペストはドナウ川河畔に位置し、人口は176万人を擁する東・中央ヨーロッパ最大の都市で、政治、文化、商業、産業、交通の一大中心都市です。ブダペストはヨーロッパでも最も美しい街の一つで、ドナウ川河岸を含め世界遺産が広がりブダ城やアンドラーシ通り、英雄広場は良く知られています。

Astronaut Shane Kimbrough captured from ISS Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
Budapest is cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with numerous worldclass museums in the city. The central area of the city along the Danube River is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has many notable monuments, including the Hungarian Parliament, Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion, Gresham Palace, Széchenyi Chain Bridge, Matthias Church and the Liberty Statue. The history of Budapest began when an early Celtic settlement transformed into the Roman town of Aquincum, the capital of Lower Pannonia. The Hungarians arrived in the territory in the late 9th century, but the area was pillaged by the Mongols in 1241–42. (Credit: Shane Kimbrough, NASA)
