[:ja]シェーン・キンブロー宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したイギリスの首都ロンドンです。イギリスではこの数年、首相が次々に交代し、政治的な混乱が続いています。
ロンドンはテムズ川河畔に位置し、2000年前のローマ帝国によるロンディニウム創建が都市の起源です。ロンディニウム当時の街の中心部は、現在のシティ・オブ・ロンドン（シティ）にあたる地域にありました。シティの市街壁内の面積は約2.9km2あり、中世以来その範囲はほぼ変わっていません。少なくとも19世紀以降、「ロンドン」の名称はシティの市街壁を越えて開発が進んだシティ周辺地域をも含めて用いられています。ロンドンは市街地の大部分はコナベーション（発生を異にする複数の隣接する都市が発展し、行政区分の境界を越えてつながって1つの都市域を形成している状態）により形成されています。

Londinium was founded by the Romans. The City of London, London’s ancient core and financial centre − an area of just 2.9km2) and colloquially known as the Square Mile − retains boundaries that closely follow its medieval limits. The city exerts a considerable impact upon the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transportation. London has a diverse range of people and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken in the region.
