アポロ8号 は人類初の有人月周回飛行を成功させましたが、そのミッション中にウィリアム・アンダース宇宙飛行士が撮影したこの地球は「史上最も影響力のあった環境写真」として知られ、アースデイをはじめ様々な環境運動のアイコンとなりました。この時の様子は録音されており、文字にも書き起こされています。
ボーマン：オー・マイ・ゴッド！ この景色をみてくれ！ ほら地球が昇ってきている。ワオ、美しいじゃないか。

[Earthview Wonders] No.1708: Earthrise
“Earthrise” was taken on the Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1968, exactly 54 years ago.
Apollo 8 accomplished the first manned voyage to orbit the Moon. During the mission, astronaut William Anders captured this earthview which became “the most influential environmental photograph ever taken.”

Anders: Oh my God! Look at that picture over there! There’s the Earth coming up. Wow, is that pretty.
Borman: Hey, don’t take that, it’s not scheduled. (joking)
