[:ja]NASAの地球観測衛星Terraが撮影した南極のブラント棚氷から1550km2の氷山が分離した様子です。
英国南極研究所（British Antarctic Survey）によると、英国の大都市圏グレーターロンドンにほぼ匹敵する面積の巨大氷山の分離は1月22日に起こりました。厚さ150mの氷には数年前から徐々に亀裂が入り、1月22日の大潮の時に完全に分離しました。同研究所は、今回の氷山の分離はブラント棚氷の自然現象であり、気候変動とは直接の関連性はないとしています。なお、氷山の大きさの比較はGiant iceberg breaks away from Antarctic ice shelf (ESA)の下方に示されています。

NASA’s Terra satellite captured an enormous iceberg breaking away from the Brunt Ice Shelf.
According to the British Arctic Survey, a huge 1550km2 iceberg, almost the size of Greater London, has broken off the 150m thick Brunt Ice Shelf on Jan. 22, 2023 during a spring tide. It calved after cracks that have been developing naturally over the last few years extended across the entire ice shelf, causing the new iceberg to break free. The size comparison of huge icebergs is shown at the bottom of Giant iceberg breaks away from Antarctic ice shelf (ESA).
