[:ja]トーマス・ペスケット宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したエジプトのナセル湖とアスワンハイダムです。このダムは高さ111m、全長3,600mの巨大ロックフィルダムで、1970年に完成しました。当時のナイル川では毎年夏に洪水が発生しており、洪水のコントロールが目的でした。
ダム建設に際して、ヌビア遺跡のアブ・シンベル神殿をはじめとする遺跡群は、ユネスコの援助で巨額の費用をかけて湖畔に移築されました。

Astronaut Thomas Pesquet captured from ISS Egypt’s Lake Nasser and Aswan High Dam. The dam is a gaigantic rock-filled dam with 111m height and 3,600m length and was constructed in 1970. The purpose of the dam construction was to control annual floods.
Major historical sites including Famous temple of Abu Simbel were rescued with UNESCO’s support.
