[:ja]米NASA-NOAAの地球観測衛星Suomi NPPが捉えた、シリアを中心とする夜の中東です。2012年と2016年の比較衛星画像からは、大都市であるダマスカスやアレッポの光が著しく小さくなったことがわかります。
シリアでは、2011年のアラブの春が飛び火して内戦が勃発しましたが、イスラミックステート（IS）の台頭の後、政府と反政府それぞれの支援国も参戦し、いまや複雑な国際代理戦争戦となっています。

NASA-NOAA’s Suomi NPP satellite captured Syria and other Middle East countries. From the comparative photos of the region in 2012 and 2016, it is notable that the city lights of Damascus and Aleppo significantly decreased.
Arab’s Spring in 2011 spilled out to Syria and internal conflict took place since then. Islamic State (IS) expanded its presence in the region, and now the conflict turned out to be an intricate proxy war of supporting countries of pro/anti-Syrian government.
