[:ja]トマ・ペスケ宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影した、ベネズエラのアベス島です。
ベネズエラでは大統領の退陣を求めて、連日反政府デモが行われていますが、連邦保護領として、350の島や岩礁から構成されるロス・ロケス諸島があります。その近く、ベネズエラ本土から約500km離れた場所にアベス島がありますが、この島はベネズエラの軍事下の管理に置かれており、島への上陸が出来るのは軍人及び関係者だけです。
一方、アベス島から約300km東のロス・ロケス諸島は美しい環礁が残されている観光地として有名で、海鳥や水生生物の多様な生態系が維持され、1972年にロス・ロケス諸島全体が国立公園に指定されました。

In the recent weeks hundreds march in anti-government protests in Venezuela. 500km away from the bustling mainland exist Aves Island. Famous resort island Los Roques archipelago exists 300km to the east, consisting of 350 islands, cays and islets. Because of the wide variety of seabirds and rich aquatic life, the Venezuelan government declared Los Roques a National Park in 1972.
