[:ja]トマ・ペスケ宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したエジプトのナセル湖とアスワンハイダムです。このダムは高さ111m、全長3,600mの巨大ロックフィルダムで、1970年に完成しました。
このダムにより、エジプト、スーダンに跨る広大な地域が耕作可能となりました。ナセル湖では富栄養化により漁業が活発化し、1973年に起きた大旱魃の際も、周辺国で旱魃が起きても、エジプトは全く旱魃が起きませんでした。

Astronaut Thomas Pesquet captured from ISS Egypt’s Lake Nasser and Aswan High Dam. The dam is a gigantic rock-filled dam with 111m height and 3,600m length and was constructed in 1970.
The dam enabled the cultivation of vast land covering Egypt and Sudan. A new fishing industry has been created around Lake Nasser due to nutrient enrichment. Furthermore, the dam also protected Egypt from the droughts in 1973 that devastated East and West Africa.
