ムンバイ市域人口は1,840万と世界でも有数で、周辺の大都市をも含めた都市圏人口は、2016年時点で2,288万人であり、世界第6位の巨大な大都市圏を形成しています。ムンバイは国内随一の商業及び娯楽の中心都市であり、国全体のGDPのうち6%、工業製品の25%、海運の40%、資本取引の70%を計上しています。
画像中央上方の黒い部分はサンジャイ・ガンディー国立公園（ボリバリ国立公園）で、自然保護指定区域になっています。

Astronaut Thomas Pesquet captured from ISS the night view of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra State and the largest city in India.
The city has an estimated population of 18.4 million and including the neighbouring regions, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region has 22.9 million. Mumbai is the financial, commercial and entertainment capital of India. It generates 6% of India’s GDP and 70% of capital transactions.
At the dark spot on the upper side of the image lies Sanjay Gandhi National Park (Borivali National Park).
