[:ja]パオロ・ネスポリ宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影した大西洋のスペイン領、カナリア諸島です。
カナリア諸島は、アフリカ大陸の北西沿岸に近い大西洋上にある、7つの島からなるスペイン領の群島です。諸島全体でカナリア諸島自治州を構成しています。大陸で最も近いモロッコ王国からの距離は100km～500km程度です。
水深が少なくとも2千mの大西洋底から突き出た火山島で、白亜紀からの地下マグマのホットスポット作用で出来たと考えられています。大陸から隔絶された島であり、ヨーロッパ大陸全土やアフリカ北端を覆った氷河の影響を受けなかったため、固有の生物種が多く、環境保全上非常に重要な地域とされています。

Astronaut Paolo Nespoli captured from ISS The Canary Islands or the Canaries (Canarias), an archipelago and autonomous community of Spain located on the Atlantic Ocean, 100km west of Morocco.
The islands have a subtropical climate, with long hot summers and moderately warm winters. Green areas as well as desert exist on the archipelago.
Due to their location above the temperature inversion layer, the high mountains of these islands are ideal for astronomical observation. For this reason, two professional observatories, Teide Observatory on the island of Tenerife and Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma, have been built on the islands, which Nespoli mentioned in his tweet.
