ハーヴィーが直撃したテキサス南部のメキシコ湾岸地域では、豪雨による洪水の影響で全米４位の人口を持つヒューストンの一部が冠水し、少なくとも13人が死亡し、数万人が避難する大災害となりました。ハーヴィーの降水量はテキサスの一部で1250ミリを超えなお増加しており、米国立気象局によると、この降水量は過去のいかなるハリケーンよりも多いと伝えられています。

Astronaut Randy Bresnik captured from ISS the Hurricane Harvey which caused unprecedented and catastrophic flooding in southeastern Texas.
It is the first major hurricane to make landfall in the US since Wilma in 2005, ending a record 12-year period with no hurricanes of Category 3 intensity or higher making landfall in the US. Harvey is also the wettest tropical cyclone on record in the contiguous United States dropping nearly 1,300 mm of rain.
