[Earthview Wonders] No.33: Moon Photobombing on Earth
NOAA’s Earth observation and space weather satellite DSCOVR captured this rare, epic Moon-in-front-of-Earth photo. DSCOVR is located at Lagrange Point (L1) where gravity of the Sun, the Earth and DSCOVER is balance and DSCOVER’s location be static. L1-Earth is 1,500,000km which is approximately 4 times that of Moon-Earth (380,000km).

Moon passes between DSCOVR and Earth only twice a year and this photo is a rare shot. Positional relationship between Sun, Earth and DSCOVER can be confirmed at NASA’s EPIC site.
In addition, this is another rare, epic view of the moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth, captured by DSCOVR on March 11, 2016.
