ペトラ遺跡はヨルダンの死海とアカバ湾の間にある渓谷にあります。1985年12月6日、ユネスコの世界遺産へ登録。2007年7月、新・世界七不思議に選出されています。立地条件の良さのため、紀元前1世紀頃から古代ナバテア人の有力都市として栄え、スパイス交易の拠点機能と治水システムがあげられます。

Petra is a historical and archaeological city in southern Jordan. The city is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Another name for Petra is the Rose City due to the color of the stone out of which it is carved. Petra is one of the New7Wonders of the World. Established possibly as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Arab Nabataeans, it is a symbol of Jordan, as well as Jordan’s most-visited tourist attraction.
