北朝鮮は国際社会への挑発などで動きが注目されていますが、南北が分裂したのは第2次世界対戦まで遡ります。1945年8月15日に日本がポツダム宣言を受諾した後、8月24日にソ連軍は平壌に進駐、9月8日にアメリカ軍は仁川に上陸し、それぞれ軍政を開始しました。
第2次世界大戦末期に朝鮮半島を横切る北緯38度線に引かれたアメリカ軍とソ連軍の分割占領ライン「38度線」の地上の様子はこちらです。

Lately North Korea’s actions are of the interests of the international society, but the separation of North and South Korea dates back to 1945. In 1945, the Soviet Union and the United States agreed on the surrender of Japanese forces in Korea in the aftermath of World War II, leaving Korea partitioned along the 38th parallel. The North was under Soviet occupation and the South under U.S. occupation.
The local scenery on the ground of the 38th parallel north is as follows.
