ベンガルールはデカン高原の南に位置し、標高は920mと高原にあります。高原にあるためインドの他都市と比較すると穏やかで涼しく、「インドのガーデン・シティ（庭園都市）」と呼ばれ、大きな魅力になっています。ベンガルールの市域人口は約850万人に達し、インド第3の人口を擁しています。1947年にインドが独立した後、国営の重工業、航空産業、宇宙産業、防衛産業の工場群が置かれ、1991年のインド経済自由化後のベンガルールにおけるハイテク産業の確立と成功は、インドのIT産業を成長させる原動力になりました。今ではベンガルールは「インドのシリコンバレー」と呼ばれるまでになっています。

Bengaluru is located in southern India on the Deccan Plateau at 920m above sea level, and with cool climate, the city is famous for its reputation as the “Garden City of India”. Bengaluru has 8.5 million population, making it the third most populous city in India. Following India’s independence in 1947, encouragement of defense industry took place in the city and after the Economic Liberation in India in 1991, tech base in the city boosted the growth of ICT industry as well. Today Bengaluru is called “the Silicon Valley of India”.
