ワウアンナムスはサハラ砂漠の中心付近、南リビアの火山域にあるカルデラです。カルデラとは、火山の活動によってできた大きな凹地のことです。カルデラの中にはオアシスがあり、草が群生しています。また、黒い玄武岩質の火山灰が周辺に広がっています。

Astronaut Thomas Pesquet captured from ISS Waw an Namus of Libya.
Waw an Namus is a volcanic field, cone and caldera in the southern Fezzan region of southern Libya. It is in the near-geographic center of the Sahara Desert. The inside of the caldera houses an oasis of rich foliage and three small salt lakes of variable color which are the reason for the volcano’s name. A volcanic field of dark basaltic tephra flow extends 10–20km around the caldera.
