[:ja]NASAの地球観測衛星Landsat 8が撮影したスウェーデンのキルナ鉱山です。
スウェーデン国営企業LKAB保有のキルナ鉱山は1900年から創業している世界最大の地下鉱山です。創業当時は露天掘りで行われていましたが、現在は1000m以上も地下を掘り進んでおり、作業はすべてコンピューター制御の機械により行われています。一方、長年の鉄鉱石採掘が地盤を弱め、2万3千人の自宅や事業所などが3kmほど遠方に移ることになりました。

Kiruna, the largest underground iron ore mine in the world, has been in operation since 1900. In coming decade, however, almost 23,000 people and their homes and businesses will move 3km away due to the weakened ground from development.
