[:ja]アントン・シュカプレロフ宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したカナダ、ケベック州のマニクアガン・クレーターです。
マニクアガン・クレーターは直径約100kmの巨大クレーターです。他の地域のクレーターと合わせて、2億1400万年前に破砕した天体の衝突によって生じた連鎖クレーターであると推定されています。中央部はダム落成の前日に35歳で他界したダムの建設設計者の名をとりルネ・ルヴァスール島と名付けられています。三畳紀後期の大量絶滅を引き起こしたという説があります。

Astronaut Anton Shkaplerov captured from ISS Manicouagan Crater, Quebec, Canada.
The Manicouagan Crater is a multiple-ring structure about 100km across, and is one of the oldest known impact craters. It was caused by the impact of a 5km diameter asteroid about 215.5 million years ago, in the Upper Triassic. It is the earth’s fifth largest confirmed impact crater.
