[:ja]ランディ・ブレズニク宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したニュージーランドの標高2,518mのタラナキ山(別名エグモント山)です。

1881年に山頂から半径約10キロ以内が森林保護地区に指定され、10キロ以内の部分は開発されなくなりました。周辺は牧草地となりその緑の色合いの違いからこのような円形の形に見えています。山容は円錐形の富士山に似ており、山麓で映画「ラストサムライ」が撮られたことでも知られています。

Mt. Taranaki, or Mt. Egmont, is a 2,518m active but quiescent stratovolcano of New Zealand’s North Island. In 1881, a circular area with a radius of about 10km from the summit was protected as a Forest Reserve. Because of its resemblance to Mount Fuji, Taranaki provided the backdrop for the movie The Last Samurai.
