ケベック・シティーは、カナダ東部ケベック州の州都で大都市圏で80万人を擁する国内7位の都市です。1608年、地理学者サミュエル・ド・シャンプランを含むフランス人一行がケベックにアビタシオンと呼ばれる木造の建築物を作り、そこを交易所としたことから町が始まったとされています。セントローレンス川が、ダイアモンド岬と、対岸のレヴィとに接近した地点で狭まっていることから、先住民アルゴンキン族の言葉で「川が狭くなっているところ」を意味する「ケベック」という名前になりました。市内の旧市街はメキシコ以北では現存する唯一の城郭都市となっており、1985年にユネスコの世界遺産に「ケベック旧市街の歴史地区」として登録されています。

Quebec City with 800,000 population is the capital city of the Canadian province of Quebec and the 7th largest metropolitan area in the country. Founded in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain, geographical feature provided the name, Kébec, an Algonquin word meaning “where the river narrows”. The ramparts surrounding Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec) are the only fortified city walls remaining in the Americas north of Mexico, and were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.
