シッカーポイントはスコットランド東部海岸バーウィックシャー州にある岬で、ジェームズ・ハットンが近代地質学の基礎となる地球観である斉一説（uniformitarianism）を証明するものとして発見したハットンの不整合 (Hutton’s Unconformity) があります。この不整合では、4億2500万年前のシルル紀の垂直なグレーワッケ地層に、やや傾斜した3億4500万年前のデボン紀旧赤色砂岩地層が被さります。

Siccar Point is a rocky promontory in the county of Berwickshire on the east coast of Scotland. It is famous in the history of geology for Hutton’s Unconformity found in 1788, which James Hutton regarded as conclusive proof of his uniformitarian theory of geological development. An unconformity is any break in the normal progression of sedimentary deposits, which are laid the newer on top of the older.
