[Earthview Wonders] No.612: Humboldt Glacier, Venezuela🇻🇪

NASA’s Landsat 8 satellite captured Humboldt Glacier, Venezuela.

Glaciers are retreating around the world. The Andes are no exception: in Venezuela, the ice has mostly already disappeared. Venezuela occupies the northern end of the Andes mountain range, and has high peaks such as Pico Bolivar. At the highest part lies Humboldt Glacier. In 1910, glaciers spanned an area of 10km2 which retreated to less than 1%. The ongoing retreat of the glacier means that the country could soon be glacier-free.

The local scenery on the ground is as follows.
