ラトビアはバルト三国の一つで、公用語はラトビア語です。国民の約27%がロシア系住民で、映画・テレビ・新聞・雑誌などではロシア語も広く利用され、世代によっては英語またはドイツ語も話すことができるマルチリンガルな国なので、外国企業の進出の要因にもなっています。首都リガは「バルト海の真珠」と讃えられる美しい港町で、その旧市街はユネスコの世界遺産（文化遺産）に登録されていまバルト海クルーズの主な寄港地の一つでもあります。

Latvia is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. Since its independence in 1918, Latvia has been referred to as one of the Baltic states. The sole official language of Latvia is Latvian, but Russian is also widely spoken. English is also widely accepted in the country which attracts various foreign investments. Riga, Latvia’s capital, is called the “Baltic Pearl” for its beauty. Riga’s historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden architecture.
