[:ja]Landsat 8が撮影した米国ハワイ島のマウナロア山です。
活火山であるマウナロア山は、ハワイ島を形成する5つの火山のうちの1つで、また、地球で最も体積の大きい山（約75,000km3）でもあります。マウナ・ロアは70~100万年前に噴火を始め、有史以来、30回を超える噴火が起こっており、1984年の3月から4月にかけて起こった噴火は世界的にも有名です。マウナ・ロアは他のハワイ諸島の火山と同様に、地球のマントル深部から上昇するプルームに起因するハワイ・ホットスポットが作ったものです。

Mauna Loa is one of five volcanoes that form the Island of Hawaii in the U.S. The largest subaerial volcano in both mass and volume, Mauna Loa has historically been considered the largest volcano on Earth. It is an active shield volcano with relatively gentle slopes, with a volume estimated at approximately 75,000km3. The volcano’s magma comes from the Hawaii hotspot, which has been responsible for the creation of the Hawaiian island chain over tens of millions of years. Mauna Loa’s most recent eruption occurred from March 24 to April 15, 1984.
