トルクメニスタンは、中央アジア南西部に位置します。カラクム砂漠が国土の85%を占めており、国民のほとんどは南部の山沿いの都市に住んでおり、豊富な石油や天然ガスを埋蔵しています。気候条件は非常に厳しく、夏は40～50度、冬は0度以下まで下がるなど、夏と冬の寒暖の差、日中と夜間の寒暖の差が激しくなっています。夏季に雨はほとんど降りませんが、冬季には国土一帯に雪が降り、この雪は一時的に積雪することがあります。

Turkmenistan is a country in Central Asia. The population of the country is 5.6 million, the lowest of the Central Asian republics.
Turkmenistan has been at the crossroads of civilizations for centuries. In medieval times, Merv was one of the great cities of the Islamic world and an important stop on the Silk Road, a caravan route used for trade with China until the mid-15th century. Today, Turkmenistan possesses the world’s sixth largest reserves of natural gas resources. Most of the country is covered by the Karakum (Black Sand) Desert.
