[:ja]セルゲイ・リャザンスキー宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したミシシッピー川デルタです。
米ルイジアナ州ニューオーリンズ付近で、北アメリカ最長のミシシッピー川がメキシコ湾に注ぎますが、運ばれた土砂が河口付近に堆積され鳥の足のように見える部分がミシシッピー・デルタと呼ばれる三角州です。10,000km2に広がる三角州は、複雑な生態系を有するのみならず、漁業や、石油・天然ガス、船舶事業でも大きな経済圏を形成しています。

Astronaut Sergey Ryazansky captured from ISS Mississippi River Delta.
The Mississippi River Delta region is part of the Louisiana coastal plain, one of the largest areas of coastal wetlands in the U.S. that stretches to the Gulf of Mexico on the southeastern coast of Louisiana. Consisting of natural levees, barrier islands, forests, swamps, and fresh, brackish and saline marshes, the 10,000km2 region is home to complex ecosystems and habitats that are necessary for sustaining its unique and vibrant nature. The Delta has a strong economy which relies heavily on tourism and recreational activities such as fishing, hunting and wildlife watching as well as commercial fishing, oil, gas, and shipping industries.
