ダカールはアフリカ大陸の西端に位置し大西洋横断貿易において重要な位置を占め、この地域の主要港湾であり、コートジボワールのアビジャンと並んでフランス語圏西アフリカの商業の中心都市です。パリ・ダカール・ラリーの終着点だったことでも知られています。ダカールはステップ気候に分類され、雨季は短く乾季は長いです。

Astronaut David Saint-Jacques captured from ISS Dakar, the capital of Senegal.
Dakar is located on the Cap-Vert peninsula on the Atlantic coast and is the westernmost city on the African mainland. The population of the Dakar metropolitan area is estimated at 2.45 million. Following the abolition of the slave trade and French annexation of the mainland area in the 19th century, Dakar grew into a major regional port and a major city of the French colonial empire. Dakar is home to multiple national and regional banks as well as numerous international organizations. From 1978 to 2007, it was also the traditional finishing point of the Dakar Rally.
